Old Rag Mountain

Old Rag Mountain, nestled in Etlan, Virginia, is a mountain peak that beckons adventurers with its rugged beauty and scenic views. Rising to an elevation of 3,291 feet, Old Rag stands as the prized possession of the Blue Ridge Mountains, offering an exhilarating outdoor experience for hikers and nature enthusiasts.

Renowned for its challenging yet rewarding trails, Old Rag boasts a unique geological formation characterized by massive granite boulders and rocky outcroppings. The most popular route, the Old Rag Loop Trail, spans approximately 9 miles and is known for its exhilarating rock scramble, which tests both physical agility and mental fortitude. Hikers navigate through narrow passages, ascend steep inclines, and scramble over boulders, climbing to the mountain's significant peak.

When driving through Etlan, Va, Old Rag Mountain won’t be missed. It is the only mountain around with a peak packed full of visible rock. Occasionally the peak is covered by fog, but most times the beams of the morning sun, lights up the mountain at full, displaying its brilliance to the Etlan Valley below.

Whispering Meadow Farm is lucky enough to obtain a face-on, flawless view of the mountain directly from its farmhouse front porch and elderberry fields. Virginia Elderberry owners, Debra and Jean, as well as friends and family, enjoy watching the mountain year-round as it changes colors seasonally and daily due to the rotation of the sun.
