The most popular route, the Old Rag Loop Trail, spans approximately 9 miles and is known for its exhilarating rock scramble, which tests both physical agility and mental fortitude. Hikers navigate through narrow passages, ascend steep inclines, and scramble over boulders, climbing to the mountain's significant peak.
When driving through Etlan, Va, Old Rag Mountain won’t be missed. It is the only mountain around with a peak packed full of visible rock. Occasionally the peak is covered by fog, but most times the beams of the morning sun, lights up the mountain at full, displaying its brilliance to the Etlan Valley below.
