We Grow What We Sell
At Whispering Meadow Farm, we don't import elderberries from other countries or purchase from wholesale producers. We are committed to hands-on-chemicals-off farming practices. We pick our berries by hand from our own crops and we don't use herbicides or pesticides. We harvest all berries and flowers at their peak and process them as quickly as we can to preserve every nutrient they provide. Very few elderberry farms can say that.
If you're in the market for quality, clean, fresh elderberry products - you've come to the right place! Whispering Meadow Farm brings Virginia Elderberry to you in the tastiest ways possible.
Getting Back To Her Roots
Meet Farm Owner, Debra
When the owner of Whispering Meadow Farm, Debra, retired from a career in medical devices, she wanted to get back to her roots. This began with wanting some land to call her own, land where she could hike and enjoy nature and be at peace with creation. She began looking in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains and found a beautiful property, known at the time as Etlan Farm. She purchased the two hundred acre farm and renamed it Whispering Meadow Farm, to better reflect the awe she feel every time she drove up the driveway. Debra began to question herself, "I have this gorgeous property, now what do I do with it?" Before retirement she spent time in Denmark where she fell in love with "Hyldeblomst", a beverage made from Elderflowers. Debra couldn't find a good substitute in the U.S., so she bought 30 elderberry bushes to see if she could make her own. Five years later, she has 2-3 acres of different elderberry varieties and is working to bring only the very best Elderberry and Elderflower products to market.
Debra sends peace, joy, and love to you, from her Whispering Meadow Farm.
Forever Farming
Meet Farm Manager, Jean
Jean has been involved in farming since an early age. Whether she was gardening, completing 4-H projects, raising livestock or working her 20-year career in the veterinary world, there really hasn’t been a time where she wasn’t farming in some sort of fashion.
During early childhood she spent summers at her grandmother’s home helping to tend to her extensive flower and vegetable gardens. She was fascinated with the fact that you could take a seed, plant it, nourish it and reap the success of a bountiful harvest. She found the same was true for raising livestock - which lead her to Vet Tech school and 20 years in the field.
After departing from her career, she was hired at Whispering Meadow Farm to take care of the grounds. She started mowing grass, but this quickly turned into gardening and eventually managing the entire farm. In 2018, the first 30 elderberries plants were put into the ground. The farm now has twelve different varieties and approximately 1500 Elderberry plants. Never did she imagine that her love for gardening would turn into farming elderberries, much less the start of the business, Virginia Elderberry. Today, alongside Debra, she strives to grow and produce the highest quality elderberry products for their customers.
